Affordable housing Australia

About the AHA.

The Affordable Housing Party is committed to addressing Australia’s escalating housing cost crisis as its core mission. Excessive tax benefits, such as negative gearing and capital gains discounts, have turned homes into lucrative investment vehicles, siphoning off billions in potential public revenue and tilting the market toward speculators rather than families.

Meanwhile, lax rules enable international buyers, including temporary residents, to purchase properties—many of which sit vacant, with estimates suggesting up to 300,000 empty homes based on the 2016 Census—constricting supply and pushing prices higher. This has led to property values soaring 30-40% above their real worth, locking many Australians out of homeownership.

Through thoughtful policy changes outlined in their plans, the party aims to gently deflate prices, avert a market collapse, and make housing affordable again for ordinary people.
